The Charlie Company Raid

On 14 January 1967, Charlie Company, 1stBn 1stMarines made a lightening raid, in a hit & run helicopter assualt upon a VC Cadre meeting in the Vill of Ban Lanh2. Charlie Company suffered moderate casualties, while inflicting 61 VC KIA in the 6 hour battle.
This is the story of the Charlie Co Raid, told via the article ("To Kill or Capture") in the June 1973 Marine Corps Gazette, written by Major Marshall Carter, who at the time of the raid, was the Company Commander of Charlie Company. Also by a New York Times (16Jan1967 article written by Jonathan Randal. The story is further told in the citation for the Navy Cross, awarded to Captain Carter, which Captain Carter says belongs to the men who fought and died that day.
