As with all "wars, there always has to be someone who thinks the war is wrong. There is always propaganda spread around like so much bull manure. In Vietnam, we had our own little Hanoi Hannah. To help combat her we also had people like Adrian Cronauer, a real person, who might not of been as funny as Robin Williams in the movie, "Good Morning, Vietnam". His story was just as real as are the horrific stories about Hanoi Jane, the individual that thought she would make a good anti-aircraft gunner for Hanoi. I often wonder how her dad took her actions. Henry Fonda played the role of some fairly important people in the defense of our nation ...i.e.: Admiral Chester Nimitz. His image was certainly tarnished by his daughter's actions.
But on a lighter note, her actions created some propaganda leaflets that were distributed to us "Imperialistic War Mongers". They depicted us as mistaken, mislead and often misunderstood warriors. Here are a couple of the leaflets that were left in our AO. They had just enough truth to make you think for a couple of seconds about home and family...but they added a lot of malarkey and lost their value because of it.
I think listening to AFRTS (Armed Forces Radio and Television Service) was sometimes a lot more entertaining. Do you remember, "Hey Joe, you re-enlist and I give you one bag of rice and two bullets"? It was a crazy mixed up war, but it was the only one we had at that time.
